A Michigan family found marijuana and a pipe in a Burger King Kids Meal.
A 4-year-old and his family got an unexpected surprise when they discovered a packed marijuana pipe in a Burger King Kids Meal in Michigan.
Inside the Kids Meal, purchased for a 4-year-old, was a pipe packed with marijuana.
The child's grandfather had bought the meal for him at the Burger King franchise in Dundee, Mich., while vacationing at the nearby Splash Universe water park.
"He handed the Kids Meal that he had gotten at Burger King to his 4-year-old grandson and when they opened it up they found a loaded marijuana pipe inside," Dundee Police Chief David Uhl told CBS News.
A 23-year-old employee admitted that the pipe and drugs belonged to him and that he had hidden them in the box while at work, not intending to give them out to customers, Monroe News reported. More drugs and paraphernalia were found in a car belonging to friends of the employee, who did not work at the restaurant. All three suspects were arrested and formal drug charges are pending.
A Burger King spokesperson emailed a statement to the Huffington Post, saying that customer safety is a "top priority" at the global chain.
"This Burger King restaurant is owned and operated by a franchisee who enforces a zero-tolerance drug policy," the statement said. "The franchise management team is cooperating fully with the Dundee police department. BKC and the franchisee extend a sincere apology to the guests involved in this unfortunate incident."
